Job Purpose

  • Lead environmental compliance across the organisation
  • Implement and maintain a multi-site environmental management system (EMS) based upon the framework of ISO 14001, including certification
  • Develop and embed a business wide culture of environmental continuous improvement

Principal Accountabilities and Key Activities

  • Develop, support, and audit an environmental management system, procedures and practices, and local legislative requirements to ensure cost effective compliance across all manufacturing activities.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate environmental risks at operating locations
  • Collaborate with the line management to develop environmental improvement plans and mentor those involved in implementation.
  • Support the decision process in determining priorities. Identify the most significant risks and take appropriate action to ensure environmental compliance and best practice is achieved.
  • Coach and mentor site teams in environmental risk assessments
  • Formally review the business capability to deliver environmental compliance and best practice. Making recommendations as appropriate.
  • Train and mentor site environmental practitioners, business leaders and managers to ensure they can fulfil their duties from an environmental aspect.
  • Integrate best practise techniques, and compliance with local legislative requirements into the operational business
  • Lead the development of effective emergency procedures
  • Interpret regulations and make recommendations for compliance improvement as appropriate.
  • Monitor local and national regulations for changes, and develop plans to maintain compliance.
  • Provide or arrange for the initial training of plant personnel as required to implement new environmental regulations and programs.
  • Maintain awareness of the compliance status of all facilities for all environmental permits.
  • To support the operational businesses in waste water treatment and compliance with a view to taking on leadership responsibilities for waste water treatment projects.
  • Interpret regulations and make recommendations for compliance improvement to plant personnel, corporate staff, and management.

Education, Qualifications and Experience


  • More than 10 years of environmental management in a manufacturing environment.
  • Undergraduate degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or Environmental Science or other engineering, technical or scientific discipline required.
  • Experience in achieving and maintaining ISO14001 certification in an international, multi-site manufacturing organisation
  • Experience in developing and deploying environmental Best Management Practices
  • Experience of working with regulatory authorities across States in India.
  • Capable of interpreting local, national and international legislation and developing effective, practical and compliant policies, arrangements and practices.
  • Experienced in management system auditing in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to direct and lead cross-functional process improvement teams.
  • Leadership and ability to lead people, influence others.
  • People Management tools & practices, including communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Capable of developing training materials and delivering the material.
  • Strong coaching, facilitating and training skills.
  • Good verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Good spoken and written English language skills.


  • Experience in industrial waste water treatment
  • Strong understanding of Production, Quality, Engineering and Manufacturing Systems
  • Experience of working with regulatory authorities in India.
  • Post Graduate qualification in Environmental Engineering or relevant subject
