Opportunity: Walmart Category Advisor

Location: Bentonville, Arkansas

Summary of role:

  • The Category Advisor will act as an unbiased member of the Walmart Category Advisory Team, identifying and addressing business opportunities across all assigned categories.   
  • This person will be the expert for consumer insights and assists with research, strategic initiatives, category plan execution and analysis. 
  • This position works with diverse sets of data: syndicated market data, customer-specific POS, consumer demographic, consumer research, and category management tools. 
  • Develop category management strategies to improve sales results and deliver customer category objectives and ROI.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide reporting, performance insights, and marketplace analysis to influence decisions and strategies to grow the category on a regular basis.
  • Develop and analyze category information in regard to distribution, merchandising, assortments, shelving, trends, rankings, and forecasts by brand and by item.
  • Gather and interpret competitive market intelligence
  • Manage Category Pro Space databases
  • Evaluate Modular performance and recommend required adjustments
  • Manage Market Basket Analytics at Walmart
  • Provide WM Buyer with Weekly update inclusive of data and trends
  • Provide all data for the modular review process and participate in all modular review meetings.
  • Walmart Show Room Management
  • Walmart Layout Center modular development with the buyer
  • Attend the monthly Bentonville RLUG (Retail Link User Group) meetings, keeping connected to the cutting edge processes and tools being used by WM vendor community
  • Interface with Timestar Technology directing new analysis and consulting projects

Education, Qualifications and Experience:


  • Bachelor degree required, preferably in business. MBA a plus.
  • 6 years’ experience with a CPG manufacturer doing Walmart account analysis, account management or category management
  • Progressive working experience in a relevant business environment. Ability to quickly develop working relationships with internal employees and external vendors including: marketing, outside sales force, retail brokers, customers, 3rd party vendors (e.g. Software vendors, etc).
  • Ability to lead changes and influence others with win-win outcomes.
  • Flexible, with the ability to handle changing environment.
  • Systematic problem solver, implementing solution to solve root cause problems.
  • High degree of professionalism viewed as competent, credible, and knowledgeable.
  • Expert in Retail Link
  • Strong Knowledge of Syndicated Data Sources: ACNielsen, IRI,
  • Strong analytical skills – experience with collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and integrating large amounts of data
  • Superior computer skills including Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and database management tools
  • Modular development experience (Prospace, etc.).
  • Ability to develop and assimilate data to create plans and proposals.
  • Possess strong listening, written and verbal communication skills.
