Opportunity: IoT & Automation Engineer


Location: Bucharest, Romania


Role Purpose:

The purpose of this tole is to design, prototype, scale and rollout IoT and automation solutions within Coats manufacturing facilities which deliver value through conversion cost reduction, service enhancement, and improvements in Health and Safety.  The role will also support local manufacturing sites in developing talent to support ongoing business as usual post solution implementation.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Design, install and commission of new IoT and automation solutions, integrating as appropriate into existing infrastructure with full consideration given to data integration requirements.
  • Utilise innovative and creative thinking to establish new value adding opportunities for process automation.
  • Identification of appropriate devices and instrumentation to enable continuous monitoring of core manufacturing processes at Coats, enabling improvements delivery in conversion cost and leadtime.
  • Manage the delivery of technical vendors, partners and subcontractors on related projects.
  • Lead engineering design efforts during the R&D phase of IoT and automation projects and work with cross functional teams to design, fabricate and test design prototypes.
  • Work collaboratively with third party external vendors to design and develop new IoT and automation solutions for Coats manufacturing processes.
  • Interact with IoT and automation development teams to ensure end to end solutions are functional, secure and easy to use.
  • Create test plans and perform user acceptance testing to ensure integrity and scalability of IoT and automation solutions.
  • Liaise with central and local procurement teams to ensure all project hardware and software purchases are managed within Coats global procurement policy
  • Compile high quality technical and end user documentation for delivered IoT and automation solutions.
  • Train and mentor local engineering and operations teams to ensure appropriate skills and competencies to support business as usual operation of installed IoT and automation solutions in manufacturing.
  • Push forward new ideas; not being afraid to experiment and try out new ways of working.

·         Qualifications and Experience Levels:

o   Bachelor Degree in Engineering, with a focus on mechatronics, or relevant apprenticeship training.

o   Minimum of 3-5 years “hands-on” experience working with automation and IoT solutions in a fast paced manufacturing environment.

o   Strong Electrical Engineering knowledge, and capability to read and modify electrical drawings

o   Experience of working with different PLC and SCADA systems.
