Opportunity: VP Sales and Marketing

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina

Role purpose:
To lead the Sales & Marketing efforts of Coats Crafts NA business that generates double-digit annual volume growth through innovative programming, new category development, new channel development, new products and superior implementation while improving net margin

Key Accountabilities:
Essential Functions:
  • Recruit, select, hire and coach high performing collaborative sales and marketing teams
  • Develop an annual business plan, that leverages the core business capabilities to meet sales growth and margin targets
  • Lead the integrated marketing and go to market efforts
  • Meet weekly with President to review facts, trends and analysis
  • Discuss weekly with Retail Sales Managers outcomes, plans, results and course corrections
  • Discuss weekly with Directors of  Product Development & Brand Management the outcomes, plans, results and course corrections Develop short and long term sales goals, budgets and contingency plans; provide action, direction and support to insure plan sales volume and profit goals are achieved. 
  • Accountable for accuracy of sales forecasts on anticipated market sales, minimum monthly.
  • Leads the team to analyse and interpret market and consumer intelligence to determine customer needs, volume potential and develops sales campaigns for the assigned accounts
  • Travel with Sales Managers and/or reps every 60-90 days on major account calls to assess market trends, program effectiveness and sales implementation
  • Be an advocate for the business with the leadership team and organisation
  • Work directly with the plant on product improvements and projects
  • Champion of the Coats Crafts brands and products internally and externally through exemplary external and internal communications. 
  • Actively participate in Crafts Leadership Team meetings and reviews. 
Non Essential Functions:
  • Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Coats employees.
Physical Demands:
  • Lift at least 20 pounds

  • Ability to make decisions with limited information
Education, Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Business Administration. Related sales and marketing management experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successfully managed the P&L for multiple product lines within a business.
  • Demonstrated ability to bridge the relationship between multiple competing functions to ensure Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing and Supply Chain operate in a seamless and profitable manner.
  • Ability to lead the growth of customer inspiration utilising pull through marketing approaches which entice customers in a bi modal customer base.
  • Expertise in  multi-channel consumer go to market strategy development and execution
  • Demonstrated experience in profitable growth of traditional products utilising new approaches and applications.
  • Marketed to social media, e-commerce and brick & mortar channels
  • Worked in a sophisticated CPG environment and an entrepreneurial business
  • Successfully implemented disciplined sales & marketing processes, which resulted in a more efficient organisation.
  • Worked with an indirect sales organisation/comfortable with customers
  • Demonstrates a results orientation in their attitude, approach, coordination with others and creativity that brings increases in sales and profitability.
  • Skilled active listener who identifies motivations, opens doors and closes deals
  • Strong negotiation and presentation skills
  • Financial acumen (i.e. business manager 1st, marketing manager 2nd)
  • Sense of urgency 
  • Entrepreneurial/calculated risk taker
  • Persuasive without authority 
  • MBA 
  • Experience with Channel Specific Retail Merchandising including multi-channel Consumer Marketing; familiarity with POS, NPD, Nielsen, and Retail Link.
  • Experience with International Sales and Marketing 
  • Familiarity with Licensing Agreements
  • Demonstrated ability to handle the following issues:
  • Brand heritage bigger than business which creates organisational inertia
  • Transitioning a business from a historically manufacturing driven, customer focused one to one with more focus on consumer insight driven product development
