Opportunity: General Manager, Central America

Location: San Pedro Sula, Honduras

Role Purpose:

  • To ensure the delivery of profitable sales growth, increased productivity and positive teamwork through the effective utilisation and management of equipment, technology and human resources
  • To ensure the successful long-term growth and development of the Coats businesses in Central America through the effective implementation and management of Coats best practice policies and strategies
  • To provide leadership to the management team in the development of a strong vision, values and code of behaviour which serves as a model for all employees within the business
  • To ensure compliance with Global safety, health and the environmental policies and local laws and regulations.

Key Accountabilities:

Exercises strategic and operational leadership to grow the business and increase market share

  • Implements an effective business strategy and targets aligned with the broader Group strategy to achieve an optimal level of profitable sales growth.
  • Actively monitors economic and business trends and conditions as they affect the business and modifies business strategies, policies and plans to optimise any changing circumstances.
  • Implements global IT, supply chain, procurement, finance, sales, customer service and HR policies and strategies toward the achievement of overall, long-term business objectives.
  • Ensures that the business strategy is translated into clear performance objectives for direct reports and actively promotes accountability for achieving desired results by establishing controls and feedback loops for performance measurement.
  • Ensures a safe working environment for all employees and is actively engaged in the health and safety process, which includes environmental performance that complies with both Coats and local standards.
  • Assess short and long term needs, problems, profit opportunities and trends within the market (customers visit periodically, constant internal and external communication to be updated with market dynamic, needs and opportunities, visit trade fairs and attend seminars to be updated with new technologies and new management tolls).
  • Implement supply chain policies and strategies toward the achievement of long-term business objectives (assure to have skilled people in place to achieve short and long term targets, use regional Directors support to local operations, promote culture of excellence (LSS) in all process (admin and operational)

Manages financial and physical resources in accordance with Group policies and local laws and regulations

  • Oversees the preparation of budgets, reports and forecasts and supervises financial performance at or above plan level on an on-going basis
  • Ensure the achievement of financial objectives
  • Ensures the company’s exposure to risk is appropriate and monitored at all times
  • Monitors operational costs and overheads to ensure maximum efficiency and profitability
  • Acts as a role model for employees in promoting a focused, ethical and professional approach to all activities and outcomes, and ensuring all business activities are conducted in compliance with the Coats Business Code of Conduct and other corporate governance requirements

Promotes positive teamwork and a high level of employee engagement

  • Provides effective organisational structures, support and coaching to facilitate the building, growth and development of functional and cross-functional teams within the business
  • Ensures that the best candidates are recruited to meet long term sales growth, and financial & operational goals
  • Ensures high morale and meritocracy to help  employees deliver consistently good performance 
  • Creates an empowered and productive working environment through positive and timely feedback of the management team and individuals across the business, and by ensuring appropriate involvement and delegation
  • Leads by example and builds capability in direct reports

Builds and maintains robust and sustainable business relationships

  • Represents the Company to all external stakeholders (partners, customers, suppliers, government bodies, professional and industry associations)
  • Collaborates and cooperates with internal and external stakeholders locally, regionally and globally

Education, Qualifications and Experience:

  • University Degree or professional qualification (MBA or Master degree highly desirable)
  • Good commercial skills and strong drive to grow the business profitably.
  • At least 5 years management experience in the textile or related industry.
  • Ability to translate strategy into clear and measurable objectives.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and conversant in English and Spanish
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a comparable role at management level supply chain, finance, manufacturing, IT, HR
  • Knowledge of the depth and breadth of Coats operations
  • Minimum 10+ years international business experience in Coats or similar business(es) involving modern supply chain and production capabilities
  • Extensive customer-facing experience in, preferably, a B-to-B environment
  • Experience managing and/or working in multi-site businesses and working across cultural/geographical boundaries, preferably in the Central American context
  • Experience negotiating/liaising with external customers, suppliers, government bodies and regulators
  • Experience in developing budgets and controlling costs
  • Experience in managing labour relations and developing talent
  • Experience working with joint-venture style companies and of developing and maintaining successful business relationships
