Opportunity: Report Writer


Location: Derby, Derbyshire


Role Purpose:

Creation and delivery of customer / internal reports, using SSRS, Fast React Software and other appropriate reporting tools.

Provide proactive and reactive support to all customers, agents and Coats Digital personnel in the effective and timely resolution of all technical issues concerning Fast React products, their implementation, development and effective use, supporting internal and external SLAs.


Key Accountabilities:

Report Writing:

  • Analyse and collate requests for new reports and evaluate estimated times.

  • Ensure all reports specifications are completed prior to work commencing.

  • Successfully plan and deliver client / project specific reports using SSRS and FastReact software, demonstrating a logical, systematic approach, focussing on the client’s needs, and planning and prioritising demand against available capacity to ensure on time delivery.

  • Test reports against the agreed specification to validate ‘right first time’ OTIF delivery

  • Ensure that any reports identified by customers / projects teams are logged onto the appropriate systems.

  • Ensure all reporting progress is kept up to date in systems and through communication with customers and internal teams

  • Liaise with the development team and progress any new views or agreed improvements which may be required to deliver a faster, more efficient and flexible reporting service

Technical Support:

  • Provide support to the customers and project teams by email, phone, Skype or web meeting, resolving issues swiftly and effectively within the resolution timelines published by Fast React Systems or specified within the customer agreements (as appropriate).

  • Maintain and facilitate a regime of proactive support to all clients and project teams with active support contracts / projects.

  • Ensure that any software bugs identified by customers are logged onto the appropriate systems and the customer kept informed of progress.

  • Analyse and collate client requests for modifications for inclusion and evaluation in development meetings. Ensure any acceptable modifications are logged and progressed in the appropriate systems.

  • Test program modifications and bug fixes, ensuring the testing lead-time is kept to a minimum and that the modified program is delivered to the customer in a timely manner.

Education, Qualifications & Experience:

(Essential)

  • A background in software and / or hardware support (1st line or 2nd line) and / or report writing

  • Knowledge of SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services)

  • Knowledge of relational databases such as MS SQL Server

  • Complex SQL using all JOIN Types.

  • Working with CTE structures, Pivots and un-pivot data.

  • Working with Update, delete and insert scripting.

  • Create stored procedures and creating VIEWS

  • Technically adept and capable of learning new software

  • Strong analytical, systematic approach to problem solving

  • Numerate and a good communicator with personnel at all levels

  • Ability to interpret user needs and provide workable solutions to problems.

  • Self-motivated and capable of working alone, or as part of a small team.

  • Strong organisational and administration skills to pro-actively adhere to deadlines

  • Familiar with using applications via RDP / Citrix / thin client technologies

  • Experience of MS Office products particularly MS Excel.
