Lead Graphic Designer

Opportunity: Lead Graphic Designer


Location: Uxbridge, Greater London


Role Purpose:

Working closely with the Group Marketing team and additional stakeholders within the business to identify requirements and to interpret and formulate creative briefs, with management of an in-house agency model. 


Managing the production of assets from briefing through to completion, working together with the Group Marketing channel owners to ensure assets are engaging and effective whilst also suitable for distribution on the given platform


Supporting the Content Managers in leading and guiding 3rd party agencies in the production of marketing assets. Ensuring all assets are brand compliant, are a true representation of the Coats values and continue to drive industry leading marketing creatives


Managing a Junior Graphic Designer to build an ‘in-house’ production team at Coats to enable full content creation capabilities are within the team.


Principal Accountabilities and Key Activities:

Management of the Coats in-house creative team, to provide guidance and direction to the wider Group Marketing team on creative decisions


Creation and delivery of a range of cross-platform digital work and print work:

  • Produce high quality graphics, images and illustrations that will contribute to a wide variety of marketing projects
  • Follow creative direction for each project, while working collaboratively to enhance and define a project from start to finish. With a detailed understanding of the brand to ensure brand elements are consistently applied to work.
  • Liaising with external printers on a regular basis to ensure deadlines are met and materials are printed at the highest quality.
  • Working as part of a team with Copywriters, Content Managers, Channel Owners and Head of Brand etc. to ensure that consistent and high standards are maintained and the needs of the business are met.
  • Think creatively and develop design concepts, graphics and layouts that well reflect the message to the proper audience for each segment of the business
  • Continue to build the brands creative reputation through developing innovative, highly creative graphics for both internal and external audiences
  • Understand, protect and drive the brand values and guidelines                                    
  • Ensure consistency of creative/brand message to support all areas of the business across all platforms
  • To find new ways of interpreting the Coats style guidelines through fresh and sophisticated, high-quality graphic design.
  • When required work with 3rd party agency outputs to further develop and create additional marketing assets

Under the direction of the Head of Marketing Communications, to assist and co-ordinate the development and design of creative marketing output, including but not limited to:

  • Product Images
  • Brochures
  • Printed Material
  • Digital – layouts and formats
  • Sales tools & Shadecards
  • Event & Exhibition stand graphics & assets
  • Packaging

Supporting and providing guidance to the Head of Brand in the production of:

  • Brand Guidelines
  • Photography style guide

Management of the assets library:

  • Lead the organisation and storage of all company design assets working with cloud based platforms (i.e. WebDam).
  • Ensure that assets are easily accessible with a logical tagging structure to add asset searches
  • Directing the Junior Graphic Designer in regular asset audits and archiving

Team Management:

  • Develop and nurture the Junior Graphic Designer, providing guidance and direction on daily projects and tasks
  • Review output to ensure it is to standard and compliant with brand guidelines and values

Education, Qualifications and Experience:

(Essential)

  • Bachelor degree in Graphic Design or related field
  • 2 years of experience in the field with reflecting portfolio
  • Must be extremely proficient in industry software: Adobe Creative Cloud -  specifically but not limited to: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
  • Ability to conform to strict deadline oriented projects and works well in fast paced environment
  • Possession of creative flair, versatility, conceptual/visual ability and originality
  • Ability to interact and communicate to present ideas
