Opportunity: M&A Senior Manager


Location: Uxbridge, Stockley Park


Role Overview:

  • M&A at Coats is a key imperative to implement the Group’s strategy and support its growth ambition. Coats started its M&A activity in 2015 and has completed six acquisitions and two divestments since then.
  • Coats has clearly defined M&A target areas and criteria and the objective is to further strengthen its deal pipeline and acquisition activities.
  • The market for the best acquisitions opportunities is fragmented and competitive. Finding the right deal targets is a challenge.  Coats needs to position itself to be considered the best future owner in advance of a sale being contemplated.
  • An efficient deal execution and pro-active implementation planning will ensure a successful execution of the Group’s M&A strategy.
  • Coats’ M&A projects are managed by a small core team and a wider cross-functional team.
  • The new M&A Corporate Finance role will be a core member of the M&A team with his / her priority responsibility in sourcing and evaluating acquisition opportunities. The person will also support M&A projects in all financial aspects and deal structuring and has the opportunity to be involved in broader M&A activities and deal management such as implementation planning and deal reviews.
  • The role reports into the Head of Group Strategy and M&A and has significant exposure to Coats’ top management.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Priority on deal origination including creating a robust pipeline that aligns to the Group strategy and M&A target areas and criteria
  • Build relationship with key players in the relevant deal market including PE companies, investment banks, financial / legal advisors, associations, and corporation in order to become aware early on of any upcoming opportunities
  • Screen potential targets and prepare for the discussion with top management
  • Prepare the financial investment case for prospective targets for both top management and Board for them to consider potential transactions

Education, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven track record in M&A (either from strategic, deal or financial side)
  • Experience in sourcing deals and building relationships with intermediaries in the M&A area a must
  • Strong understanding of the M&A market and network
  • Strong knowledge in finance and deal modelling / structuring
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Team player  
  • Ability to work across all organisational levels, functions and in a multi-cultural environment
  • Able to work independently and take leadership; strong work ethic
  • Strong communication skills – spoken and written
